新洋务 SYNCRETISM

新洋務 SYNCRETISM, derives its name from the 洋務運動 (Yángwù Yùndòng) self-strengthening movement in late 1800s China and the definition of the word syncretism. This historical movement aimed to modernize China by adopting Western ideas and technologies while preserving its cultural identity. In our event, we pay homage to this significant period by incorporating the term "洋務" (yángwù) and adding the character "新" (xīn), meaning "new," to represent our contemporary interpretation. The word syncretism refers to the merging or blending of different beliefs, cultures, or traditions to create a new and harmonious whole.

SYNCRETISM encapsulates the harmonious fusion of East and West cultures, showcasing mesmerizing performances by traditional Chinese instrument, the guzheng, alongside eclectic sets delivered by local, unconventional DJs spanning various modern genres. This juxtaposition serves as a vibrant celebration of diverse cultures, offering an artistic medium for learning, absorption, and exploration.

SYNCRETISM also provides a platform to showcase local designers' innovative reinterpretations of traditional attire, collaborating with Behati, Ghostboy, and STW. Breaking boundaries and seamlessly merging elements from different cultures, these designs exemplify our commitment to promoting cultural exchange. By embracing this concept, our event aims to create a vibrant and transformative experience that resonates with individuals seeking to explore and appreciate the beauty of cultural amalgamation.

In order to elevate the immersive ambiance for participants in Syncretism, GOEN meticulously curated a custom-designed newspaper, capturing the essence of the past and evoking a sense of nostalgia to seamlessly align with the event's distinctive atmosphere.
